Using Lean Enterprise to Drive Quality and On Time Delivery to
Customers
A large aerospace company has been a leader in manufacturing high
quality engines to customers for decades. With engine and auxiliary
power unit (APU) growth of ~9% in 2005, and projected growth similar
or greater for 2006, however, some segments of the business are
experiencing difficulty in delivering engines on time to customer
request dates. In the spirit of Lean Enterprise, this company must to
deliver value to its customers by stepping back and analyzing the
entire value stream. Enterprise-level optimization of supply chain,
assembly, and test practices were analyzed to provide recommendations
for the greatest benefit to both internal and external stakeholders.

this company needed to organize a lean assembly line for increased
production.

As-Is/To-Be, Value Stream Mapping, Process Mapping, Failure Mode
Effect Analysis, and other tools to design new assembly line
- Implement new line by physically moving the required equipment
and support tools into place
- Measure new assembly on new line, set up Control Metrics to
ensure continued success
Develop Web Testing for high quality engine testing
In order to meet customer requests for electronic test results,
